I. Invention of Basketball (1891)

Way back in 1891, Dr. James Naismith from Canada made up basketball history start at the YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts. He needed an indoor game to keep his students moving during winter.

So, he created a game where players aimed a ball into peach baskets hung high on the wall.

The first game used a soccer ball and two peach baskets—a simple yet groundbreaking idea! This new non-contact sport needed skill and strategy, way different from the rough games of that time.

II. Formation of the NBA (1946)

The NBA started as the Basketball Association of America (BAA) in 1946 but became the National Basketball Association (NBA) after merging with the National Basketball League (NBL) in 1949.
