Basketball fans, brace yourselves! We’re on the cusp of witnessing a truly historic moment in the NBA. With the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James. Yes, you heard that right—LeBron James and his son, Bronny, will make history as the first father-son duo to play as teammates in the NBA.

Reflecting on the momentous occasion, LeBron shared how emotional it was for the family.

While LeBron has faced his fair share of challenges and criticisms since his teenage years, he believes Bronny is built differently. “Bronny doesn’t care about what people say,” LeBron noted. “He works hard, plays his game, and when he’s done, he goes home and plays video games. He’s the complete opposite of me. I used to care a lot about what people thought. Bronny? He doesn’t even listen to that stuff.”

It’s been Bronny’s dream to play in the NBA for quite a while, Hearing his name called in the draft, especially with all of us together, is a moment we’ll never forget.

LeBron said

Bronny’s journey to the NBA hasn’t been easy. Less than a year ago, he underwent heart surgery. Despite this, his resilience and commitment have shone through, proving his uniqueness. “People don’t understand how hard it is for him,” LeBron added. “He has all the choices in the world, unlike me, who had no choice but to make it out for my family.”

In an unexpected twist, just six days after drafting Bronny, the Lakers announced they had re-signed LeBron James. This new contract could see LeBron through his 23rd NBA season—a fitting number for one of the greatest players of all time. When asked if this might be his last deal, LeBron said, “It could be. We’ll see what happens.”

Lakers missing out

Despite the Lakers missing out on signing big-name players like Klay Thompson and DeMar DeRozan, LeBron remains optimistic. “It takes two to tango. Our front office and coaching staff did their best, but sometimes things don’t work out. That’s part of the business.”

Since joining the Lakers in 2018, LeBron has been laser-focused on winning. “Winning still matters to me,” he emphasized. “We’ve done it before, and we can do it again. AD and I are committed to excellence and winning. We’re not that far off.”

Indeed, the Lakers’ 2020 NBA championship, which they won in the Orlando bubble, remains a testament to their potential. “We were one year removed from the Western Conference Finals,” LeBron pointed out. “This past year didn’t go as well as we would have liked, but we’re not that far off.”

Lakers fans have every reason to be excited as the new season approaches. With LeBron and Bronny on the court together, history will be made, and the pursuit of championship glory continues.
