Google has announced an exciting upgrade to its Gemini AI image generator, now available in the latest Android beta (v15.40.31.29). This new enhancement introduces advanced editing options, allowing users to refine their generated images with greater precision.
According to initial reports from Android Authority, users can now make nuanced adjustments to any image produced by Gemini. In a demo conducted by Android Authority, the AI successfully generated an image of “a cute dog wearing a hat and sunglasses.” When the user requested a change to a birthday hat, Gemini adeptly made the modification.
While the ability to fine-tune generated images isn’t entirely new in the realm of artificial intelligence image tools, Google’s addition of these features bolsters Gemini’s competitiveness against other prominent image generators like ChatGPT’s DALL-E.
As Apple prepares to unveil its Image Playground later this year, the enhancements to Gemini will likely establish Google’s AI as a robust alternative for iPhone users seeking third-party image generation options.
Although the demo showcased some impressive capabilities, it’s essential to note that these editing tools are still in beta. The reviewer indicated that “the edits aren’t always precise and reliable.” Furthermore, the demo video has been edited to eliminate wait times, suggesting that the actual launch experience may not be as swift as portrayed.
A Better AI Image Generator
The advancements in AI image generation have been remarkable over a short period. Midjourney, often hailed as the premier AI image generator, faces increasing competition as new tools and updates emerge regularly. The upcoming enhancements to Google’s Gemini showcase potential, yet it remains to be seen how effectively it will perform once fully released for public use.
