Band's Asheville Performances Called Off Due to Guitarist's Health Concerns
Fans of Widespread Panic were hit with some disheartening news this past Sunday. The band announced that their longtime guitarist, Jimmy Herring, has been diagnosed with stage one tonsil cancer. As a result, the band decided to cancel their highly anticipated three-night run in Asheville, NC, initially scheduled for July 25th–27th, 2024. This cancellation ensures that Jimmy can begin treatment immediately and focus on his recovery.

The news was shared in a heartfelt message on social media, where the band expressed their sorrow and concern:
The Widespread Panic Family is sad to report that our Brother, Jimmy Herring, has been diagnosed with stage 1 tonsil cancer. He will begin treatment immediately and is expected to make a full recovery. That part we’re happy to report. The Band will not be playing the upcoming Asheville dates. We will have a clearer picture of our future concert schedule in the next few days.

Widespread Panic’s 2024 tour schedule, beyond the canceled Asheville dates, is set to continue on August 22nd–24th, with the band’s first visit to Boston in nearly a decade. This return to Boston is particularly significant, marking a long-awaited comeback to the city. That holds a special place in the band’s hearts and its fans. Additionally, the band has several other significant events lined up for the rest of the year. These include their annual trip to Las Vegas from September 20th–22nd, a beloved tradition for the band and their followers. The Las Vegas shows are known for their high energy and vibrant performances, making them a tour highlight.

Moreover, Panic has three sold-out nights in Milwaukee from October 25th to 27th. These Milwaukee shows sold out three months in advance, demonstrating the band’s enduring popularity and the unwavering support of its fans. Following Milwaukee, the band is set for another Halloween celebration in Savannah, GA, on November 1st–2nd. These extraordinary Halloween shows often feature unique setlists and festive, spooky themes that fans look forward to yearly.
